Chris has been practicing law in our firm since 1971 and in that time has worked in almost every area of the law. Chris obtained his law degree from Otago University in 1971 and was admitted to the bar in 1972. He now practises predominantly in the areas of property, commercial, trusts, liquor licensing, law of charities, gambling law, civil law, arbitration and dispute resolution, wills and rural law.
Chris is a registered trustee and a fellow member of the New Zealand Trustees Association and is a trustee of the ILT Foundation and many private trusts.
He is a past member and chairman of the Southland Legal Aid Committee (1980-1989), a past Council member (1983-1987), Treasurer (1987-1989), Vice President (1989-1991) and President of the Southland District Law Society (1991-1993), and was a member of that society’s disciplinary tribunal from 2001 to 2008. Chris is also a past member of the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Law Society (1992-1993). Chris also served as a board member on the New Zealand Law Society from 1994 to 1998 and was Vice President (South Island) of the New Zealand Law Society from 1998 to 2000. He was also a member of the New Zealand Law Society Finance & Administration Committee from 1996 to 2000.
Chris has been a member of the NZLS Presidents Working Party on Automation Land Titles since 1998 and still serves on that committee which has helped manage the digitilisation of landonline and New Zealand’s transfer to the electronic land system.
Chris is married to Pauline, enjoys playing football, golf and tennis.
